Case Study 2
Norcomm UK was selected from a number of installation companies to provide assistance in the design and installation of a new cabling infrastructure for Education Bradford's new head quarters at Future House.

There were a total of six floors within the building, including a converted warehouse in to office space, requiring network services. A communications room was established on each floor with the use of DataRacks 42U 800x600 freestanding cabinets.

Over 1800 Category 5 Enhanced outlets were installed throughout the site using a combination of custom made wall plinths and dado trunking. RW Data was selected as the ideal partner for the installation.

A total of 8No copper gigabit links were delivered to each floor from the main communications room located on the ground floor. The cables were split into two groups and resiliently routed for disaster recovery. Normally Norcomm UK would recommend the use of fibre optical links, however the chosen links were required to suit the purchased hardware by the client.

Due to a VOIP (voice over IP) Mitel 3300 telecommunications system being installed, it was not necessary for a large number of pairs to be delivered to each floor for the telephone system. With there being a number of analogue devices, it was necessary to provide a 20pair CW1308 link to each cabinet location. The VOIP system was run over the gigabit copper links to each floor and then distributed over the structured cabling system.

The result
Norcomm UK were given strict time slots for each phase/floor, which were completed well within schedule each time, including various amendments and additions. The site was 100% tested using a Fluke DSP4000 series tester with a 100% pass rate. The test results were forwarded to RW Data for inspection and issuing of the 25-year system performance warranty. A completion document was issued containing, summarised printed results, electronic results on CD and a project summary.

* FACT The VOIP system was the largest of its kind outside of
North America.
